They'd spend their days searching for new records that they could play before anyone else - The Rolling Stones. Theodore joined his mentors to dig through crates full of vinyl in downtown Manhattan. HENRY: Gene and Flash picked up on Theodore's natural DJ abilities early on and took the pre-teen under their wings. God is smiling on you, but he's frowning too, because only God knows what you go through. MELLE MEL: (Singing) A child is born with no state of mind, blind to the ways of mankind. Gene was also close friends and a creative partner with another future legend of hip-hop, Grandmaster Flash. His older brother, who went by the name Mean Gene, was entrenched in the bubbling hip-hop phenomenon. Theodore was acutely aware of what was going on. We're talking about the 1970s here, the earliest days of hip-hop. HENRY: So let's go back a little further for just a minute. (SOUNDBITE OF INCREDIBLE BONGO BAND'S "APACHE") HENRY: Theodore spent days on end experimenting with this new sound that he, quite literally, stumbled upon, something we now know today as scratching. The sound piqued his interest, so he did it again. Theodore accidently moved the record playing back-and-forth. On one particular day back in 1975, Theodore was playing the Incredible Bongo Band's "Apache." As he reached over to pause the record to hear what his mom was saying. And like most parents, some others scolded him from the other room to turn it down. The young DJ quite literally stumbled upon a technique that would change hip-hop forever - scratching.ĭUSTY HENRY, BYLINE: Like most 12-year-olds, Livingston loved playing records loud in his bedroom. I still feel a little exhilaration each time I remember doing so. Who on earth could afford to provide such services free of charge to the end user? The fact that they don’t declare their business models frankly only confirms that, if people really understood what they’re up to, many more would do as I did several years ago, and close their Facebook account. Google, Facebook and other social media are of course businesses which are built on this trade. Apple and others are trying to catch up with those who have been abusing our trust to make money from our data. In both cases, recent advances in privacy protection have followed years of neglect. Privacy protection is mainly aimed at two areas: online extraction when we’re accessing Google’s services and social media like Facebook, and the apps which we run on our Macs and devices. Now I do the same using their iOS app, well away from any risk of catching Covid-19, but trusting everything on that iPhone to respect the privacy of that transaction. Gone are the days when I used to drop into my local bank and ask one of the staff – most of whom knew me – to transfer some money from one account to another. In a world where physical banks are vanishing, and writing cheques strongly discouraged, we have no option. I think this is genuine, and that anyone who uses their computer(s) and devices to store sensitive information has to take privacy seriously. So why have we become so concerned about protecting our privacy? Is this just a marketing feature, or a spurious alarm raised by those selling digital snake-oil? Without a single dialog or prompt about accessing protected files. A few minutes of Spotlight search, courtesy of HoudahSpot, and I was able to quote chapter, verse and year to answer a question from a former colleague. Only last night I needed to huck out some information from old files, going right back to the early 1990s. That made me consider why privacy is now more important than access. I looked back a little last week, in a throwaway line: fifteen years ago, in 2006, when Spotlight arrived on our Macs “we were all more concerned with finding our documents than preventing others from reading their contents”. Looking back may not seem an Apple thing, but it’s a great advantage to be a Janus. I’m no interior designer, and have a lifelong hatred for open-plan offices anyway, but there’s one feature that I’m sure Apple’s headquarters still needs: at each level, at least one working Mac from each five year period since 1984. 2/11/2024 0 Comments Antonym for quitterJovan Belcher appears on the scene after Moreno has run by him and Belcher is not fast enough to keep up. Moreno breaks into the open field but just as he’s gaining momentum, Brandon Flowers dives at Moreno’s legs and Moreno jumps over Flowers who whiffs and misses him completely. Next, it’s up to Andy Studebaker to box Moreno in but, Moreno gets to the outside easily and Studebaker’s lunging dive barely touches Moreno. Tyson Jackson is tied up, not held, but kept from breaking free soon enough to get close to Moreno. Moreno takes the hand off and, seeing the hole closing, uses his quick feet to bounce it towards the right sideline. It is initially blocked well which opens a wide hole for Knowshon Moreno to run through but Derrick Johnson sniffs it out and does a good job of darting to fill the gap and meeting the fullback there. The Broncos call a running play (surprise) designed to go up the middle between their center and right guard. Two plays stick out from Sunday’s game that exemplify their giving less than their best effort and yes, it cost them the game.Ĩ:48 left in the 1st quarter- Denver’s ball on the Chiefs 30-yard line, 2nd and 7, no score However, this trend can also be seen in the Broncos game. This phenomena is most observable in the Bills, Lions and Dolphins games when they fell behind. However, for all practical purposes, there’s no difference. It’s not so much that the players have consciously given up as… they’re just not giving their best effort. In the case of the Chiefs, I’m not sure if they’re giving up so they can move on to the next game… or if they’re giving up so they can move on to the next season. So, it begs the question, what kind of effort are the Chiefs players giving when their backs are not up against the proverbial wall? Todd Haley said recently that the Chiefs seem to play better when their backs are up against the wall. Since that time I’ve seen this phenomena in almost every sport and almost every level of competition. Their motivation to do this appeared to be to move on to the next game, a game they hoped they could be competitive in. While playing volleyball I noticed that as some teams fell behind by six or more points, they’d give up. In this instance the ATC proposal was superior,” Okigbo explained. Our preference is always for bilateral renewal, subject to competitive pricing and terms. “The agreement with ATC over the 2,500 sites is final, having gone through a rigorous process involving our highest governance approvals. “We announced in September that the lease for the 2,500 sites (which was due to expire in 20) had been awarded to ATC after a very fair and transparent procurement process. In a press statement, made available to LEADERSHIP, MTN Nigeria’s chief corporate services and sustainability officer, Tobechukwu Okigbo, averred that these reports are not true, adding that MTN has not received any revised offer from IHS. Recall that the media was awash with reports saying that IHS Towers has offered the company improved terms for the lease of 2,500 sites that match the terms of ATC, which recently won the contract following a highly competitive bidding process. This is even as the telecom operator has debunked media reports of IHS winning the contract. MTN Nigeria has disclosed that it has finalised its 2500 tower sites contract deal with ATC. 2/11/2024 0 Comments Captin phillips length"SEALs are understandably concerned about stealth," McKnight writes. But if they could escape the American navy, the pirates seemed willing to die, according to the retired admiral. In fact, they really just wanted to reach shore and ransom the merchant captain, McKnight writes. "They were pissed," Castellano said of the pirates, according to McKnight. The destroyer "lit up the place" with spotlights, sirens and loudspeakers. The pirates were already on edge when Bainbridge reached the lifeboat on the night of April 9, freeing the Maersk Alabama to continue to Kenya. In this case, "it turned out the pirates had run out of khat," McKnight writes. According to McKnight, the interpreter added a dash of local knowledge, including the fact that pirates often chew narcotic khat leaves to ward off seasickness. It is important to note that the main contrast between a pathological liar and a compulsive liar is that a compulsive liar is usually very remorseful and knows what they are doing is wrong. They know that they are lying and it does not bother them in the slightest. They will lie to close friends, family members, anyone who stands in the way of what they truly want. They lie with a specific goal in mind and they do not care who they step over to get to it. They know how to manipulate those around them so that they can get their way. They lie for personal gain and they see nothing wrong with their actions. On the other hand, a pathological liar is far more cunning and crafty. Being placed in childhood situations where lying is necessary is thought to be one of the root causes of compulsive lying. This is not done to hurt anyone else, it is done to protect themselves. For these people, telling the truth is not preferable, they would rather lie. They are typically well aware of the fact that they are lying, but are often powerless to make any sort of change in their life. For those who are compulsive liars, lying is simply a reflex, it is their default way of associating with the world.Ī compulsive liar does not lie for personal gain and they are not known to be especially manipulative. It is such a deeply ingrained habit, one that was likely formed during childhood, that lying simply feels comfortable to them than telling the truth. Someone who lies out of compulsion is a person who cannot keep themselves from lying. Let’s take a closer look at the two forms of liar. But did you know that there are different types of lying? The difference between a pathological liar and someone who lies out of compulsion is vast. There is a good chance you either know a liar very well or know someone who does. Liars are an unfortunate part of our daily existence. 2/11/2024 0 Comments Bartender skills for resume sampleThe more the merrier.īut try and keep this to 100 words and under, and use exciting language that’ll make employers want to keep on reading. I purchased the pink heart for my kitten, I knew it was not engraved by looking at the customers review pictures. This is a great tag for the price! (Posted on ) Well made & adorable tag - too heavy for small cats Review by JJ Price I just ordered another one for my other dog (a lab/hound mix) because the tag we had gotten her at a large, popular chain pet store a few years ago has no color at all left on it and just looks terrible. The tag is on her collar with her dog license and the back of this tag is up against the license, so some of the color around the edges has rubbed off, but the engraving is still in tact and easy to read. A year later, the stones are all still in place and the engraving is still perfect. The purple is bright and pretty and the engraving is perfect. I love that I was able to put her name on the front and then our address and two phone numbers on the back. I wouldn't order it for a small breed dog because it would look enormous. It's a good size not too small and not too big for my border collie/lab mix. I bought the purple tag for my dog a little over a year ago. I plan on ordering way more since I have about 50 different collar/harnesses that need tags (: I'm only posting the ones that don't show my info but there's tons more! (Posted on ) Love mine! Review by Amanda Price I haven't been disappointed yet and I've ordered ALOT of different styles and colors. I'm getting a tag for each dog and cats collar so I don't have to constantly struggle to take them off the rings each time I change collars which is usually every 2-3 days! Lol. Now that I have came across this company I've bought a total of 12 so far and am putting in another order very soon! Super affordable. I've always wanted to get my babies tags for their collars but I'm not about to pay $20.00 for a tag that's just gonna say their name that I already know. I also have a 4 month old Siberian who is now up to about 8 collars and 5 harnesses (so far!). I have a 3 1/2 year old Siberian who owns about 20 different collars and 12-14 harnesses. |
